PAL Mentoring/YDC Kids Celebrate Over 3000 Hours of Community Service
The Miami Beach PAL Mentoring Program and Youth Director Council (YDC), headed by Lori Freedline and Joey Daoud, held a year end recognition event for the kids. After sharing a lunchtime meal together, they were given beautiful certificates to recognize their hard work and community service provided to the Miami Beach PAL, the City of Miami Beach and their residents, and the law enforcement community by volunteering thousands of hours this past school year. For the past few months PAL has been hosting a mentoring program for high school and middle school kids to come together every Saturday, play games, have pizza, and watch educational videos on teen related issues. The program grows each week with new kids, and will continue throughout the year.

In January, 10 YDC kids went to Disney for the weekend to participate in Disney’s YES (Youth Educational Series) Program. On the first day they went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where they learned how movies are made, from storyboard to filming to editing. The next day they went to Magic Kingdom, where they learned about Light and Sound. They even got to go backstage beneath the Haunted Mansion to see how light is used to create the illusion of ghosts.
