YDC and Police Explorers Help Prevent Underage Drinking
The Miami Beach Youth Directors Council and Police Explorers recently helped the Miami Beach Coalition’s Sticker Shock program. The kids placed red tags on alcohol in participating stores to discourage people from buying it to give to minors. Below are some photos.

In January, 10 YDC kids went to Disney for the weekend to participate in Disney’s YES (Youth Educational Series) Program. On the first day they went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where they learned how movies are made, from storyboard to filming to editing. The next day they went to Magic Kingdom, where they learned about Light and Sound. They even got to go backstage beneath the Haunted Mansion to see how light is used to create the illusion of ghosts. On Monday, August 17, PAL hosted its Annual Back to School Fair where 500 back packs filled with school supplies were given to kids. PAL also provided pizza and drinks and the event was a huge success! Over 300 parents and children showed up to pick up the much needed back to school supplies and back packs. The rest will be distributed to local Miami Beach area schools. The previous day YDC and Explorer kids spent the afternoon preparing the back packs, forming an assembly line to pack all 500 bags. YDC kids enjoyed a Year End Pizza/Pasta Party and received certificates documenting their community service hours to our community for 2008/2009 school year. The 17 participants logged in over 3,000 community service hours. The estimated value of an hour of volunteerism is $20.25, which means the kids of YDC contributed over $60,750 worth of work to the community!
