Teen Court is a program for first time juvenile offenders that have committed misdemeanor crimes also students can volunteer to be part of the program and receive community service hours. The Defendant can elect to go through the Juvenile Justice System or the Teen Court Program. The benefit of the Teen Court Program is, the juvenile is not placed in the system. On Wednesday, June 17, 2009 the Miami Dade County School Board honored both the Police Department and PAL for bringing the DNA Child Safety Program to the Kindergarten, First and Second Graders at the four Elementary Schools on Miami Beach. Both School Board Commissioner Karp and Chief Noriega spoke of the importance of this program to the youth of our community.
